Peddicord has been appraising Jewelry in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area since 1983. He taught physical science (chemistry and physics combined) and earth science at local High Schools. Two post master degrees in Higher Education Administration, and two masters' degrees in Supply Management and Physical Science have been awarded. B.S. in earth science teaching (geology) was awarded in 1965 while participating in Naval ROTC program in Chapel Hill, NC. Four years of active duty were spent in the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer after graduating from college. Mr. Peddicord retired from teaching after 30 years. He is currently devoting his time to study of the general market as it related to metals, non-metals and gems. As a member of the tidewater investment club and video subdivision, substantial information has been gathered concerning the timely sales and purchases of gemstone jewelry. Studies of interest rates, inflation and deflation, supply and demand, rarity, overbought and oversold markets, currency appreciation and depreciation, political climates and other dominating forces have been studies. Advanced courses in appraising prepared by the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers and a Master Gemologist Course prepared by expert Anna Miller are also being pursued. Mr. Peddicord is a highly respected member of the jewelry industry. He has worked with local Jewelry stores and independent jeweler in providing service to the local area. He has been working with the Jewelry Judge software program to produce quality jewelry appraisal for six years. He has been setting up the Hampton Roads franchise for three years. This office is expected to grow visibly in the next couple of years (2004 and 2005) with more people becoming interested in purchases of higher quality gems set in gold and platinum jewelry. Local attorneys have retained him on several occasions as an expert witness. Cases were resolved on some occasions prior to going to court. He believes in resolving problems rather letting a judge make a drastic decision. Current data files are maintained for seven years. Clients are contacted prior to being taken off the records so as to encourage them to maintain updated appraisal. Minimal fees are charged when clients update appraisals. Library used in appraisal work include authoritative appraisal manuals, current price indexes, reference books and trade periodicals. Appraisals may be made for a number of reason including insurance, determination of value for state and federal inheritance tax, tax donations, equitable distribution in the case of divorce, etc. Appraisals have been accepted by all major insurance companies as well as by jewelers and other businesses to determine the proper price to pay or receive for jewelry.
